Membership

The first step to join the Jamestown NY Chapter and its Harmony Express Chorus is fun, attend a meeting.  You will have the time of your life.   Membership brings with it many opportunities, joys, challenges and rewards.   Come give us a look and listen!    You will be WELCOME!

How To Become a Member

Attend a chapter meeting.   Usually after three meetings you will understand who we are and if you are interested in finding out about membership.  Ask to talk to the Vice President of Membership Development to begin the membership process.  You will be given a voice audition to determine your vocal range and part placement in the chorus. During the audition, you will be asked to demonstrate the ability to produce an acceptable tone quality, pitch matching ability, and harmonization with other parts. You are NOT required to be proficient in reading music, however, it is helpful, and you should be able to carry a tune.

Once you have met the requirements for membership in the chapter, you will be given the following:

• A Roster# will be assigned to you.
• A Music Folder.
• Voice Part training tapes/disc to learn current repertoire will be issued as needed.
• Formal Uniform.
• Staging and choreography materials to assist in becoming a "riser and performance qualified" member as needed.
  
• A Welcome Kit from the Barbershop Harmony Society.

Meetings

The Jamestown NY Chapter meets each Tuesday evening at First Presbyterian Church located at 509 Prendergast Ave., Jamestown. NY

[phone: 716-487-1984]  The meetings begin promptly at 7:15 PM, and generally last three hours. The rehearsal consists of a structured warm up, a craft session, and learning of new music. This is followed by announcements and a short break. The meeting concludes with rehearsing of repertoire songs, contest music, and performance music.   Note: Prospective members are encouraged to bring their spouse with them to chapter meetings.

Uniform

The current competition uniform consists of a white tuxedo with white shirt, vests and accessories. We also have black pants to accompany the tuxedo. You will be required to purchase the black pants.   A (one time) uniform maintenance fee of $50.00 is assessed each new member to procure and maintain the formal chorus uniform during the term of membership.   The formal uniform must be returned upon resignation of membership.

The chorus has a current casual/traveling uniform which consists of black pants and blue striped shirt (with logo).  Each new member will be required to purchase a logo shirt ($30.00) from the chapter.      This fee may be reimbursed upon resignation of membership and return of logo shirt in good condition.

Our Chorus uniform policy changes and each member's responsibility is subject to those changes as decided by the chapter.
